About the Work

Reveal explores the unstable boundary between visibility and concealment. The face emerges with relative clarity from a field of colour, gesture and disruption, appearing at once present and partially obscured.

What begins as a study in tonal structure develops into an encounter between representation and interruption. Colour presses into the image, unsettling the relationship between figure and background. The face remains a point of recognition, while the surrounding marks resist a single, settled reading.

The painting asks what it means to reveal oneself when perception is never entirely complete. We may recognize a face without fully understanding the person, and what appears visible may still hold something back.

About the Series

Seeing and Being Seen considers portraiture as a psychological and perceptual encounter. Through shifts between resolution and fragmentation, presence and absence, the series examines the distance between looking at another person and truly knowing them.

The paintings invite viewers to consider how identity is shaped by observation, interpretation and the things that remain beyond view.
