About the Work

In Reach, a dancer rises into a moment of suspension, her body and flowing dress extending upward against a dark, open field. Seen from a low angle, the gesture takes on a sense of scale and possibility, while the contrast between light and shadow draws the viewer into the movement.

Drawn to the expressive capacity of the dancing body, Gord McTaggart explores the interplay of gesture, fabric, anatomy and reflection. The technical demands of charcoal and graphite bring precision to the figure while preserving the grace and energy of the composition.

The result is an image of movement that feels both grounded and weightless — a moment of grace that invites a sense of awe and uplift.
